Caring for your Topiary Plants - Laurus nobilis 'Baytree, Bay Tree'
Thank you for purchasing a plant from TopiaryShop.
Your plant has been carefully grown in the The Netherlands, an area
famous for its fertile soils and of course, growers of nursery
produce. It has then been hand selected from stock, and transported
to the U.K, where, it has been further clipped, fed and watered.
Below you will find a description of your purchase, together with a
care guide.
We hope your plant will give you many years pleasure.
Upon delivery please carefully remove any packaging from the plant.
Water thoroughly, preferably by standing the plant in a bucket of water
for 10 minutes or so, as the plant may have been in transit for several
days.
The plant is currently in its growing pot. It is recommended
that the plant be repotted into a larger more permanent decorative planter
or pot as soon as convenient. Alternatively it can be planted straight
into the garden using a quality potting compost mixed with good topsoil.
Description:
Laurus Nobilis: Bay Tree, Bay Laurel, evergreen plant, grown for its
culinary uses, aromatic foliage, and as a dense topiary specimen. Stands
clipping well, and thrives in coastal regions where it will form good
hedges. Can be subject to frost damage in cold areas, but new growth
is quick to appear in Spring. Happy in full sun or part shade. Dense
green shiny leaves & produces black fruits September/October. Suitable
for all types of well-drained soil.
Care:
Trim to shape using sharp secateurs. It is important the growth is kept
under control and the plant is not allowed to grow out of shape. If
this does happen, trim little & regularly to slowly restore shape.
No special feed is required, but will benefit from a top dressing of
Rooster organic fertiliser or similar each Spring
Remove any unwanted growth on clear stem, and from base of plant. Water
regularly; - but sparingly.
If you live in a particularly cold area in the Northern parts of the
u.k, the plant is happiest planted or placed by a west facing wall,
being slightly sheltered from cold drying winds. Prune back any frost
damaged areas. It is advised however, that to avoid any frost damage,
a fleece (available from garden centers), is placed over the plant during
the winter months.
